The holidays have this amazing way of simultaneously having so much happening and a whole lot of moments of nothing. I traveled to three different places which means tons of Italian food. Let’s be real, red sauce (gravy if you’re a New Yorker) and family just go together.
I love the togetherness and still, I love coming home to my pace and my place. Except then New Year’s hits and there’s a mania that seems to overtake everyone around me. New Year’s and Back-to-School season have me waking up, wide awake, gasping and sweating at 4:30 am. How will I accomplish all of the things that I set out to do this year?
As I plunk myself down with a piping coffee, my pen scratches the paper of my morning pages journal angrily. THIS IS NOT THE LIFE I WANT TO LIVE. This franticness in my being has me doing things I resent.
Herein lies the problem. I love dreaming and scheming my way to new beginnings. New beginnings are potent. New loves, new jobs, new homes. Embarking on a new endeavor brings hope. New Year’s is FULL of this sentiment. It is a huge part of the human experience.
Unfortunately, it’s also full of overwhelm.
It doesn’t have to be crazy, but we do have to figure out how to use the energy of NEW to create with our natural rhythm.
These days, I ditch the resolutions and align my New Year Goals to my Internal Compass.
While you’re waiting, get started on this Inventory of 2016 (NOTE: It’s “View Only” so please make a copy in Google Docs for yourself.). This step is hella important (yes, I know, “hella” died in the 90s and big hair/perms died in the 80s, but I want a revival).
Our job is to discern our truth, which means you have to do two things:
Start here with this practice of noticing what rocked your socks + what didn’t. Write down how it felt when you’re socks got rocked.
To bold desires and claiming your True North,
P.S. Have a friend that you know would would love this? Pass it along with a list of three reasons why you love them. Then watch for magic.
