I need you to start practicing self-love + self-care like it’s your J-O-B. Like it’s your soul (sole) purpose in life. You are worth it.
I need you to do this, because when you practice self-care + self-love, you become a beacon of possibility for every woman around you.
Story 1
Picture it. Saturday Female Founders Brunch. As ladybosses, we were discussing our current schedules + all that’s on our plates. The topic: how to balance it all + not hit burnout. There were some really interesting reactions. One woman got really upset that it would be possible to do life differently. She literally couldn’t see the way. She was seeing DC women, balancing full-time gigs, side-hustles, and networking like whoa.
My takeaway: We need to see more stories of women that are balancing big plates. We need to see their boundaries. We need to hear about their self-care.
Story 2
I met a bigwig at Bank of America a week ago who has also started a blog for women to share their stories + an advocacy group for girls. “How do you do it all?” I was dying to know. I want her tips + tricks. Turns out, she books spa appointments in between client meetings. She works hard + travels often. If she has to take the day off after traveling to go grocery shopping + buy her baby girl new shoes, she does. She operates by sourcing herself first, and then she delivers.
My takeaway: When you source yourself first, you deliver better results.
Story 3
In a Facebook group, one woman posted asking for support. In a different group, the women were competing for who was the most exhausted (and perhaps a little physically ill) and still going to work and never missing a day (and this was a Facebook group for nannies).
My takeaway: Pay attention to where you’re ingesting your truth. You have to look for evidence of what you desire to create. Hearing burnout? You’re surrounded by folks that are burning out. We have to look elsewhere and create a plan for you to take exquisite care of yourself.
Oh girl, oh woman, oh heart. Let’s learn from each other.
Yes. We need vision + discipline to see our work manifest itself in this world.
Yes. We have to make choices about what we say YES to + what we say NO to.
But we don’t need competition for exhaustion, overwhelm, and burnout to get us to our future.
We need more women that are demonstrating the art of radical self-care on the way to their goals. We need to hear how they do it.
We need Beacons of Self-Love
Perhaps you are in a moment where you are proud of the life that you’ve created. Please, please please, share your truth + your desires. Tell us how you are being + doing your life. Tell us what you are still craving. Tell us where you are growing. We need it all. How you want to do life AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE share the why. Why do you want to do it differently?
Perhaps You Need a Beacon of Self-Love
Sometimes when a client is working to change a belief or a habit, I ask them to look at evidence that it’s possible. When you are transforming into who you are becoming, you might have to LOOK outside yourself at other women to see the evidence of what is possible.
