“Perhaps real wisdom lies in not seeking answers at all. Any answer we find will not be true for long. An answer is a place where we can fall asleep as life moves past us to its next question. After all these years I have begun to wonder if the secret of living well is not in having all the answers but in pursuing unanswerable questions in good company.” – Rachel Naomi Remen
The eve of the first day of 2018. 2017 showed herself to be a year of questions. Where will I live? How shall I continue to make my living? Which parts of my work will stay alive? Where and how shall I create beloved community? These questions ran thousands of miles in my head. Every night, I asked three of those questions and I would pull a card from an angel deck. I knew that the questions couldn’t be answered in one go. The answers were going to have to be lived. I had no idea how to live them. So I pulled reassuring things. I slept. I woke. And I began again. Living into those questions, knowing they are going to change. The nature of life is to change the landscape, through the seasons and thus the years. There’s richness and depth around us. I find that living into these unanswerable questions is WAY more fun in good company. Then when lost, we’ll laugh and cry together. What are the questions you’re living into? Who’s with you? Who are you with?
To being on this journey of life with you, the literal good company.
To the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018.
